Dermatopathology Laboratory of New England, P.C. is a privately-owned dermatopathology laboratory in operation since 1995. Dr. Philip Shapiro’s mission for the laboratory has been to provide the highest quality of care for the patients of the practice. Currently, there are three board-certified dermatopathologists on staff and approximately ten supporting staff members.
Dermatopathology is a subspecialty of dermatology and pathology that concerns the study of skin diseases at a microscopic and molecular level.
A dermatopathologist is a highly trained physician specializing in the diagnosis of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails with the aid of a microscope. Dermatopathologists make observations through the microscope and work closely with dermatologists and other physicians in analyzing a patient's medical information in conjunction with the microscopic findings to render an accurate diagnosis.
After undergoing a biopsy procedure with your dermatological provider, your skin specimen is brought to our laboratory where highly skilled and experienced histotechnicians process your tissue and get it ready for the dermatopathologist.
Our goal is not only to provide accurate diagnoses, but our expertise lies in our ability to perform clinical-pathologic correlation to assist in diagnosing complicated dermatological conditions and to provide up-to-date evidence-based research articles to help educate our clinicians.
Our three physicians have a collective experience of over 80 years in the fields of dermatology and dermatopathology and we are highly regarded for our unparalleled attention to detail, dedication to our clinicians and patients, and our excellent personalized customer service as a dermpath lab.
We also pride ourselves on our ethics and cost-consciousness, for example, by utilizing immunohistochemical stains and molecular studies in a judicious manner.
